Shen Yun Performing Arts received a warm welcome and enthusiastic applause from theatergoers in Murcia, Spain, on March 1 and 2. Among the audience were members of the Regional Assembly of Murcia, who shared high praise for the performers.

“The audience received them enthusiastically. Because for a rainy day here in Murcia at the auditorium, the Palacio de Congresos is completely full and the audience is devoted to the show they are seeing. We are all very enthusiastic because the truth is that [the performance] transmits a lot of positive energy,” said Antonio Martínez Pastor, a Murcia Regional councillor.

“It inspires tranquility, it inspires joy. I am sure it will be very well received in all the cities where this show is being performed. We are seeing it today in Murcia, and the applause is constant,” said Virginia Martínez García, a representative of the Murcia Regional Assembly.

“The orchestra was fantastic and it awakened many emotions. Emotions from witnessing something so beautiful, but at the same time sparking a much deeper reflection,” said Luz Marina Lorenzo Gea, a Murcia Regional councillor.

Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company. It’s based in New York and tours the world with a mission: to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism. Shen Yun’s performances also shine a light on the brutal persecution of faith in modern China under the Chinese Communist Party. Because of that, the company cannot perform inside China.

“I think that through culture and art, this show offers an important reflection on how freedom is often lost in countries, such as China in this case. It’s also a way of trying to recover it, and fight for this beautiful country with its rich tradition. And sadly, it’s not even possible to perform this show there,” Ms. Lorenzo Gea said.

“It is essential to maintain traditions and culture, and not to annul them. To annul the culture of a country is also to annul its history and also to annul its people, its citizens,” said María Eugenia Sánchez Pérez, a representative of the Murcia Regional Assembly.

“I loved the variety of colors and dances. It also gave a glimpse into the tradition of what has always been China. Not the version of China we’re being shown lately, which is not what we’ve experienced here tonight,” said Pascual Salvador Hernandez, a representative of the Murcia Regional Assembly.

Shen Yun will perform in Valencia, Spain, on March 12 and 13.
