Shen Yun: The Beauty of Divine Beings Dancing

January 16, 2024

WOKING, UK—Audiences in Woking, Surrey, watched New York-based Performing Arts company Shen Yun’s latest show over the weekend. Shen Yun can be translated as “the beauty of divine beings dancing.”

“I think the degree of perfection in the performance is astonishing. And there is a true credit to their craft and how dedicated they are to what they do,” said Marcelo D’Ambrosio, Transformation programme director.

“One of the most extraordinary evenings of my life! I really mean that … I’ve seen a lot of theater in my time, and that ranks right at the top” said Nick Paterson, a private school owner.

Audience members were delighted by the combination of music, dance, and special effects that tell stories from China’s past.

“It’s a very, very visual experience and speaks to thousands of years of culture and history, which is very beautifully portrayed,” said Mr. D’Ambrosio. Others agreed, calling the performance “a spectacle.”

“I don’t think you can appreciate it until you’ve seen it live on stage!” exclaimed John Robson,  a technical director.

Mr. Paterson said he was “absolutely blown away by it.”

“I’ve never seen anything like it. I thought the dancing was fantastic. The special effects are extraordinary.”

Some said the experience was uplifting and gave them a sense of positivity to take away with them.

“All of the dancers seemed to be so absorbed in what they’re doing. It’s just beautiful, the energy that comes off the stage, it’s amazing!” glowed Elmira Thacker, a construction company director.

“All the way through each bit of the story, you saw that actually good overcomes evil in each setting, so it was wonderful to just reiterate some of those morals we try to install at home,” said Miranda Tilbury, a public health consultant. She continued: “Just this purity of spirit and this calmness, but also that energy to want to protect and do the right thing.”

Mr. Paterson noted some of the values he observed in the show pieces. “To be compassionate, to be kind, to respect the elders, and to be more aware of everybody rather than just themselves.”

Shen Yun will perform in Milton Keynes, Northampton, and London before continuing its tour of theaters further north in the UK.
