Shen Yun ‘Was Absolutely Magical’: Radio Host

January 5, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts brought a round of applause to the Boch Center’s Wang Theatre in Boston to celebrate the start of 2024.

Brian Braginton-Smith, president of Lewis Bay Research Center, said: “the choreography is incredible. The colors are absolutely mesmerizing.” He added that “the skill of the dancers, I would say if this were a gymnastics competition, that it would be a straight ten. So I think it’s fabulous.“

Jeffrey Kuhner, the host of the radio show “The Kuhner Report,” and his wife saw the performance on Dec. 30 for the third time. He said: “you see Shen Yun, it will change the way you look at the world. It’s one of these shows, it’s extremely rare, where you leave spiritually, culturally enriched, for the better.” He added: “I’ve never seen a production where you have such a great fusion between video, and all of a sudden it’s live. So that’s a really neat touch. So, I think there’s something in here for every member of the family. [It] becomes a great night out for the whole family.”

His wife, Grace Vuoto, also a radio host, said: “it’s true when they say that it’s fresh and new every year, there’s a different dimension. And that’s really true. So, it was absolutely magical.”

Through dance and music, Shen Yun depicts stories and legends from China’s 5,000-year-old traditional culture—a culture that was almost destroyed by the communists who took power in China in 1949.

Mr. Kuhner said: “[Shen Yun] is the real China. This is the historic China. This is the cultural, traditional China.” He added that he wants “people to see this because it captures the incredible artistic treasure, the aesthetic beauty, the spiritual wonder that, frankly, the Chinese Communist Party is trying to destroy and obliterate.“

“And anytime I can go to a show where faith is celebrated, that gives me a great sense of joy and serenity, and community,” said Mrs. Vuoto. “We may not have the same religion, but we understand the similar values that emanate from religious faith. And that’s definitely something that I share and want to celebrate.“

Mr. Kuhner added that the show brings a sense of hope, and that “it celebrates the individual, it celebrates family, it celebrates China, it celebrates spirituality, it celebrates the fact that we all come from God and are given a special mission and purpose in life.“

Shen Yun performs around the world every year—but it’s banned in China, due to its mission to revive traditional culture.

“I hope this continues year after year,” said Mr. Kuhner. “My dream is to see Shen Yun played in Beijing, in Shanghai, and all across China.“

Mrs. Vuoto said: “I want to congratulate everybody for a fabulous performance, a seamless performance, very well executed, and I want to tell everybody out there to go see Shen Yun. You won’t regret it.“

Shen Yun returns to Massachusetts on Jan. 13 for three performances in Worcester.
