Julie Johnson, a writer, said, “It was my honor to be at this performance. It was beautiful, majestic, humorous, lovely, strong.”
Bob Brunner, a former securities investigator for the state of Oregon, said, “So beautiful. Very graceful. This is the second time we’ve seen this. We saw it a few years ago in Eugene. It’s amazing. It’s kind of a combination and a melding of art and athleticism and faith and history. It’s just amazing. Everything is so beautiful, so pleasing. It just gives a nice peaceful kind of feel to it.”
Joseph Herman, a business owner, said, “I like how you incorporate the big screen with the performers. The one guy disappears, and then the real guy jumps up. That’s pretty clever.”
“I loved the way the whole performance shows the culture of China for all those centuries before communism, and I just pray in my heart that things can change and go back the way they were,” said Ms. Johnson. “I think it’s critically important. I think it will open a lot of people’s eyes and get people on board. And it’s done in such a beautiful, artistic way. It’s just lovely.”
“I wish everyone could see how it was before communism, because now there’s such potential that’s still there that has to be unlocked. And hopefully that, that’s what we can have people see, is just the beauty, the history, everything is so involved. And hopefully that will be a return,” said Mr. Brunner.
Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006 and brings an all-new performance each year, with brand-new music, choreography, and costumes.
Mr. Herman said, “It’s amazing what these performers can do. They can jump, they can leap, they can sing, it’s simply amazing. You know, I work with my hands, and to see somebody using their bodies in the way they can is truly amazing.”
“I was really inspired, and now I want to go home and write another book,” said Ms. Johnson. “We need to let people express themselves. We can’t squash them and tell them what they can believe and what they can’t believe. And the human spirit was so strong in this performance.”
