“It was incredible,” said Gregori Hanson, a senior consultant. “I am very impressed with their level of skill. To me, even better than the Houston Ballet. It was very impressive.”
“They’re beautiful. I love the water sleeves dance. It’s beautiful how when they dance, how everything flutters and flows and especially with the men dancing as well when they have their swords or their tablets. I love how they integrate the costumes and all the props,” said Erin Lambson, a financial manager.
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional culture from China before communism, through classical Chinese dance and music.
“I’m really enjoying it. I think the costumes are wonderful. The dances are wonderful. The performers are very entertaining. So, really good performance,” said Steven Lambson, a compliance manager. “The story of China is a very interesting one that I don’t know very much about. So I’m learning a lot during the performance.”
“The overall message is, come see it. Come enjoy it. Vibrant colors, great performance, fantastic dancers. So highly recommend it, for sure,” said Carolina Maynez, a banker.
Shanna Hanson, a realtor said, “I absolutely love their efforts and I love the fact that they’re traveling and they’re bringing this to everyone else, because me, myself, I’m not really familiar with Chinese culture, with their history, and so for me, I feel like I just got a little bit of a snippet of their culture and it makes me want to learn more.”
“It’s a shame that it can’t be seen in China, that it’s only here. And I mean, I’m sure all over the world, but the fact that it can’t be performed in China is sad,” said Roxana Rogers, a special education coordinator. “I think the message is to get more people out here to see this and experience new things, experience different things, from different places and different cultures, and helps bring us all together.”
“The repression that China is experiencing, that was very touching for me,” Ms. Maynez said. “It touched me because I read that this amazing show could not be performed in China, and now I understand a little better. And as a Hispanic person, I identify with that, as I wish that such beautiful pieces could be appreciated by everybody, especially in China, in their own country.”
