Audience members who watched Shen Yun at Oxford’s New Theatre on Jan. 23 and 24 were left in awe at China’s rich culture.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s 5,000-year-old culture which was almost lost under communist rule.

“Historically, we all had a divine culture didn't we, no matter where you come from in the world. And you know, I think the Chinese culture endured for a lot longer than most,” said business owner Andy Pike.

“It is beautiful seeing the divine elements of the gods and the heavens and the connection between the normal world,” said crew manager Laurence Jennings. “The divine connection and the earthly connection makes you really think about our current world as well.”

Many audience members who see Shen Yun say they are touched by the values portrayed in the stories on stage.

“In this current world of complexity and lots of conflict, it was quite a peaceful and loving type message that was given, talking about divinity, talking about peace and harmony,” said business consultant Paul Burnett. “Just having a more simplistic view of the world and of your own life and getting some balance in your life, I thought it was excellent.”

Business owner Shelley Jackson said she was holding back her tears.

“I was just sort of in awe of everyone,” she said. “It's just amazing how they move and sway across the floor. And I think it's really emotional. I thought I was going to cry at one point.”
