Shen Yun Performing Arts held performances at the Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Downtown Los Angeles, California, on Jan. 23 through Jan. 25. Audience members were impressed by the skill and artistry of the performers.

Monica McFarland, a family therapist, said, “It’s humorous. It’s got beautiful values sharing for all ages, the artistry on every level, the dancing, the movement, the gymnastics, the musicianship, the pianist even was incredible. And the respect that the performers show one another. Even the MCs, the orators, are so delightful. It touches every sense, and it’s fun and enjoyable. You can’t miss it.”

Jerry Silverstein, a territory business manager, said, “[It] was amazing. It was beautiful. The colors were very stimulating, the action, the drama, the comedy, the music, the movements were amazingly timed. The timing was so amazing. It was just the way they could time everything with the virtual and the real. And it made me feel very inspired.”

“I cried a few times just from the beauty of the movement. Just exclaimed, ‘wow, this is amazing.’ Because we work with the body, we know what athletes go through, and we just admire people who are able to master their bodies, and it’s clear that everybody in the [Shen Yun] team just is so well trained, and also enjoys what they do,” said Jonas Schoellkopf, the co-owner of Intuitive Integration Therapies.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture from before communism, through a display of classical Chinese dance and music. Each performance is also accompanied by a unique blend of classical Western and Chinese instruments.

“It was really good. We lived in New York for the longest time and never saw it in New York. And it was really interesting to learn more about the culture in China. And also just [to] see, not only the dance moves, but how much it goes into that because it’s tumbling, it’s gymnastics, and it was really interesting,” said Trey Ditto, the CEO of Ditto PR. “I loved the music. And even when the lady came out and played the Chinese instrument, I think when they were going through the instruments in the orchestra, there’s so many instruments that I’ve never heard of before. And to hear them being played, that sounds really cool.”

“I love the show because we love the Chinese people. The Chinese culture, the dance, the symphony, and the people who sing over there. It’s very beautiful. It’s a very beautiful culture,” said Jorge Ricardo Nicolalde, a lawyer.

Based in New York, Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006 and has grown to eight different companies.

“I thought it was amazing. It was my first time seeing it, and I’ve wanted to see it for a couple of years [now]. I cried most of the time because I really believe in the spirit of what it is saying that we are all whole and divine, and that we need to remember that to come back to that wholeness when we feel fractured,” said Jackie Fernandez, the co–owner of Intuitive Integration Therapies.

“It is incredibly uplifting. It touches every sense. Your ears, your eyes, your spirit. It needs to be seen. It’s very healing on so many levels, and I just encourage everybody to see it. This is our second time we’ve seen it. We will be back next year. We are hooked. We’re going to come every year. It’s just incredible,” said Ms. McFarland.

“Twenty years is amazing. I wish them another 20 and more. Please don’t stop. And to some degree, I hope that their work will inspire other places in the world to do the same for their own country, and so that we have these revivals of lost culture that was much more based on love and community and togetherness. So thank you,” said Mr. Schoellkopf.

Shen Yun will perform in Escondido, California, until Jan. 29, then continue their tour in Thousand Oaks, California, on Jan. 30.
