On Dec. 31, Shen Yun Performing Arts wrapped up its five-day performance run in Bordeaux, France, with an impressive six sold-out shows. Held at the Arkea Arena, a grand 4,000-seat theater, the production captivated nearly 24,000 people over the course of its performances. As the final show of the year took place on New Year’s Eve, audiences were treated to an extraordinary display of color, music, and dance—an experience that left them profoundly moved and eagerly anticipating Shen Yun’s return next season.

“It’s just awesome, and we hope that we can come and see [Shen Yun] again because it’s really worth seeing,” said Debbie Goudy, a business owner. “It’s just awesome and makes you feel really good. And we will never forget it.”

Shen Yun's mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese civilization, showcasing the beauty, culture, and spirituality of pre-communist China. The performances, filled with ancient tales and stunning dances and music, transported viewers to a world rich in tradition and virtue. Many in the audience expressed how deeply the performance resonated with them, igniting a renewed sense of hope and connection to something greater than themselves.

Gregory Henin, a physiotherapist, was completely captivated by the performance. “The show was absolutely wonderful, featuring exceptional music, magnificent colors, and outstanding dance pieces,” he said. “You are genuinely transported to ancient China, and it’s truly magical.”

Philippe François, a retired business owner, also praised the show’s artistic value. “It makes you feel like a kid again! It’s beautiful, it’s joyful, and the colors are so vibrant. We were like children watching Santa Claus arrive,” he said.

Jean-Luc Goudy, a Reiki therapist, expressed awe at the show’s dynamic energy. “Oh, it’s breathtaking—bursting with color, movement, and energy. I’m speechless, as they say in English,” he remarked.

Patrice Chatufaud, a design engineer, enjoyed the performance’s diversity and humor. “I’m really enjoying the show. It’s very colorful, with acrobatics and little stories that have a great sense of humor as well,” he said.

Mrs. Goudy shared a similarly glowing review. “Oh, the show was spectacular. Really wonderful. The way they dance, and the costumes are just beautiful. The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,” she said, moved by the performance’s beauty.

Several audience members were touched by the deeper significance of the show, particularly the universal values it highlighted.

Mr. Henin reflected on the spiritual messages embedded in the dance pieces, saying: “There were dance pieces that really allowed us to connect with these ideas of divinity. And it’s great to hold onto these beliefs, to have a more positive view of humanity as a whole.”

For Mr. François, Shen Yun’s focus on kindness resonated deeply. “There’s a lot of kindness, goodness, and simplicity. We find universal values that are just common sense. And you can feel the presence of grounded, down-to-earth people,” he said.

Mrs. Goudy also found the show’s message of shared human values to be moving. “Oh, the feeling is awesome. It makes you feel really good to see something so beautiful. And to see that it’s Chinese, it just makes me notice that everybody is the same all around the world,” she said. “They all have the same feelings and expressions and love and all the same beliefs about humanity being from the divine Creator. So it’s just awesome. It was really special for me to see that because I didn’t know that it was in China the same way.”

Mr. Henin spoke to the value of tradition in our modern lives, saying: “Tradition is still a crucial part of our lives today, especially in a world that moves very fast. It’s good to reconnect with our roots sometimes and go back to something much more traditional. It’s really the center of our lives, actually.”

Mr. François reflected on how Shen Yun’s portrayal of China contrasts with modern portrayals of the country. “I think they need to continue spreading this message because the current portrayal of China and other countries doesn’t seem to align at all with these aspirations. It’s more about a warrior-like vision rather than one of beauty and harmony,” he explained.

Mr. Goudy emphasized how important it is for Shen Yun to continue sharing its message. “I think [Shen Yun] can help us remember our traditions, where we come from, no matter what our cultural background is.”
