A Chinese Communist Party official is triggering anger among internet users as funeral homes across China are overwhelmed and people are mourning their loved ones.

Jiang Yunzhong works at a renowned university in Beijing, serving as Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department for the University’s Party Committee. The majority of universities in China have internal departments that function as branches of the Chinese Communist Party.

Over the weekend, he shared a post on Chinese social media. In it, he wrote that he had expected millions of people in China to die of COVID-19. Saying: “so what if millions of people die.”

He cited how China’s 2021 death toll reached 10 million adding that 5 million more “wouldn’t be a big deal.”

He also questioned why the number is considered unacceptable.
