The Social Security Administration will send out a fresh round of monthly benefit checks this week, with payments landing on Aug. 12, for recipients born between the first and 10th of any month.
The disbursement is part of the agency's staggered August payment calendar, which spreads deposits across three Wednesdays based on beneficiaries' birth dates.
Who Gets Paid When
Social Security's largest benefit category is retirement, available to workers aged 62 and older who paid into the system during their careers, while survivor benefits go to eligible spouses and children of deceased workers. Beneficiaries who are paid on someone else's work record, such as a dependent spouse or child, receive their payment according to the primary beneficiary's birthday rather than their own.Two more payment dates remain on the August calendar: those born between the 11th and 20th will be paid on Aug. 19, and those born between the 21st and 31st will be paid on Aug. 26.
Not everyone follows the birthday-based schedule. Recipients who started collecting benefits before May 1997 already received their August payment on Aug. 3, and those who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) were also paid earlier in the month.
Most beneficiaries get their money via direct deposit into a bank account or onto a Direct Express debit card.
What to Do About a Missing Payment
Anyone who does not receive an electronic payment on the scheduled date should first contact their bank.Recipients who still need to report a late, missing, or stolen payment can call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 or visit their local Social Security office.
