Odor Eaters held it 42nd Rotten Sneaker Contest today. The winner, 12-year-old Connor Slocombre, credits stepping in manure at the farm and smashing fish guts at the lake for the win.

Contestants gathered in New York City to have their stinkiest shoe attempts judged by a panel of experts, including NASA certified chemical specialist George Aldrick. He commented on the winning pair.

“This particular winner had all three categories that I look for. One is the very putrid and then the pungent that kind of gets up your nose and makes your eyes water. And then the heave part, which is just an involuntary reaction. So he had all three of them.”

The winner receives Broadway show tickets, $2,500, and a spot in the Odor Eaters Hall of Fumes.
