In Ufa, Russia lives an artist with an unusual sculpting material: pencils.
Since leave his job as a carpenter, Salavat Fidai dedicates himself to carving these tiny sculptures in the leads. Using his old pencils from a corporate job, which have a thicker lead, he carves with a scalpel-like knife to create incredibly detailed miniature carvings.
His work includes famous monuments and buildings, the human figure, as well as movie characters.

Carving these tiny sculptures is a delicate process. It’s not unusual for the lead to break, however careful Fidai is treating them. Pencils are not all of his passion — he’s fascinated by all things miniature, so he’s also painting on matchboxes and even seeds.

When he finished another piece of art, he’ll probably sell it on his website. But if you want one, you may have to cash in quite some money, some of them cost up to $550 per piece.
