The dream of owning a home has become a nightmare for many. The 30-year mortgage rate is 6.9 percent. Those lucky enough to own a home now face the rising threat of squatters—individuals occupying a residence without the owner's permission and not paying rent or maintenance. They are hard to evict, claiming “squatters rights.” An illegal immigrant influencer gained an audience by encouraging his viewers to invade homes and squat in the United States. He is now on the run from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

What can be done? Will rates go down? Will the dream of owning a home become an affordable reality? Will those property owners be able to control who lives in their own home?
