Secret Service Says Gunfire Reported Near White House Overnight

President Donald Trump struck a bipartisan tone at the annual White House congressional picnic, thanking both Republicans and Democrats in attendance. “Beautiful Republicans and beautiful Democrats,” he said from the White House's Truman balcony. “It’s nice to mention them in the same breath.”

The event served as a warm-up to a larger celebration set for Saturday: a massive military parade commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Army—timed to coincide with Trump's 79th birthday.

“We’re coming together to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Army with a grand parade,” Trump said. “I don’t think we’ve ever seen the likes of what you’re going to see.”

The Army will be represented by service members from the 82nd Airborne Division, many of whom will take part in a high-profile flyover.

The parade will take place on Saturday, June 14.
