China is hitting back at the United States after a move that could result in tariffs hikes on Chinese goods. The tit-for-tat comes less than 2 months ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing.

China’s commerce ministry opened two investigations into U.S. trade practice on Friday. Worth noting, the Chinese investigations are targeting U.S. trade probes into unfair trade practices from countries including China.

Meanwhile, Washington launched investigations after the Supreme Court struck down U.S. tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or “IEEPA”. If the investigation finds out that these countries engaged in unfair trade practices, then the U.S. could resume certain tariffs on Chinese goods.

China’s commerce ministry said it firmly opposes the U.S. trade investigation. The Chinese investigation accuses the U.S. of disrupting global supply chains and U.S. trade barriers to green products.
