Washington is urging Taiwan to resolve its defense spending dispute. The White House told "The Hill" it strongly supports Taiwan's push to increase defense funding.

This comes after the Taiwanese president’s $40 billion proposal was blocked ten times by opposition lawmakers, raising questions at home and internationally about Taiwan’s resolve to defend itself.

President Donald Trump has urged Taiwan to increase its defense spending.

The United States has long been Taiwan's main source of weapons supply. Just last week, Trump signed an executive order to prioritize arms sales to partners that invest in their own self-defense.
