Two inmates charged in separate homicide cases escaped from the Sumter County Jail in Americus, Georgia, late Sunday night, prompting an urgent, multi-agency search and public alerts across southwest Georgia.
The sheriff’s office described Martin as a black male, 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 120 pounds, with untwisted dreadlocks. Holmes is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 155 pounds, also with untwisted dreadlocks, along with multiple tattoos on his face and neck, including a dollar sign, a broken heart, and the words “Baby Kay” over his right eye.
“If you see either of these individuals or have any information on their whereabouts, please call 911 or the Sheriff’s Office directly at 229-924-4094. You can remain anonymous,” the sheriff’s office wrote in the post.
Minutes later, at 5:27 p.m., the Montezuma Police Department shared a separate BOLO alert on Facebook, urging the public: “If you see either of these individuals or have any information, please call 911. You can remain anonymous.”
The GBI said Roberts died after being transported to Phoebe Sumter Hospital, and a 19-year-old man, later identified as Jotavis Roshon Leverette, died from his injuries.
Persley said one of the inmates has family or other possible contacts in Albany and urged residents not to approach the vehicle if spotted.
Authorities have not released details on how the inmates escaped. The investigation remains ongoing.
