NTD’s Paul Greaney sat down with Romanian presidential candidate and leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, George Simion. They discussed the recent cancelling of Romania’s presidential election, why Simion is worried about the outcome of Russia–Ukraine peace talks, and the haunting memories Romanians still have of Eastern Europe’s communist era—a full 35 years after the toppling of communist dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu.
Simion and other Romanian political leaders traveled to Washington to seek support from American conservatives amid election controversy in their home country. At the Conservative Political Action Conference, Vice President JD Vance and tech billionaire Elon Musk criticized the Romanian constitutional court for annulling the results of Romania’s recent presidential election. The results showed a clear lead for political outsider Călin Georgescu. But the court said the election process was tainted by Russian interference and illegal social media activity. Simion says the court’s decision was politically motivated and is calling for its reversal.
