Somewhere along the way, we all find moments to acknowledge that our lives are finite. We will not be on this earth forever. We also gradually begin to understand, as we get older, that our life is defined much more by the small moments that accumulate over time, rather than the grandiose events during our existence.
This grandpa embodies the very heart of humanity. Living alone and humbly with elephantiasis to keep him from getting around too far or too quickly, he relies on his wheelchair. That doesn’t stop him, though. But on this particular trip, it did. He was strolling down the street in his wheelchair and a motorcycle crashed into him. he was shaken, but ok. His granddaughter came to visit him and bring him home.
This was one of those moments for the granddaughter in which she recognized our earthly existence and a piece of her own as well. She made the decision to reach out to others, to ask for help for her grandpa. She knew how hard her grandpa had worked for his entire life. She wanted him to have a break.
She turned to crowdfunding, not sure if even one person might reply or make a donation to make a difference. But reply they did! In doing so, she was able to teach us all a lesson that we all need to help each other. And we all, at different times in our lives, need someone to lean on. It’s so easy to take for granted.
