British rugby player Brooke Morris is confirmed dead after she disappeared on Oct. 12. She was last seen on that day at 2.40 am after a night out in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, according to The Sun.  Morris, 22-year-old,  was given a ride home to Trelewis, Merthyr Tydfil, by friends.

Morris was wearing a long-sleeved red top and jeans. It is believed she did not go home after being dropped off by friends but walked towards a bridge over the river close to her house, according to the same source.

Police, firefighters, and mountain rescue experts launched a search operation to look for her. Hundreds of people from the area, including friends, neighbors, and rugby teammates—some with bikes and some with dogs, joined the search operation after her disappearance. They searched the local waterways and woods. Many volunteers were putting up posters and flyers to raise awareness of Morris being missing.

Members of Nelson RFC, Morris’ rugby team, as well the Welsh Rugby Union and former international and BBC commentator Jonathan Davies posted and shared on social media several appeals to find her.

South Wales Police Superintendent Ceri Hughes said her family had been left “devastated” by her disappearance, according to Wales Online.

As reported by Wales Online, Hughes said: “We know Brooke was dropped near to her home address by friends which is in Bontnewydd Terrace in Trelewis. …We don’t believe Brooke went inside her home. We believe Brooke instead went down a lane which leads to a bridge that goes over the river and towards Treharris.”

Police officers carrying out searches of rivers and waterways nearby found the body of a woman in a stretch of the River Taff.

BBC reported on Oct. 17 that the police confirmed that the body had been identified as missing rugby player Brooke Morris and a post mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of her death.
