Britney Spears has entered a substance abuse treatment facility several weeks after her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, according to her representative.

A representative for Spears said that the singer voluntarily checked into the facility.

Spears was arrested on March 5 in Ventura County. The California Highway Patrol said officers responded to reports of a black BMW 430i speeding and driving erratically on U.S. 101 near Newbury Park, close to the Los Angeles County line.

Spears was the only person in the vehicle when she exited the freeway and pulled over. Officers said she appeared impaired and conducted field sobriety tests before arresting her on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Spears was arrested and booked early the next morning and was released several hours later.

The case was later submitted to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether to file charges before a scheduled May 4 court date.

In a statement after the arrest, Spears’s representative called the incident “completely inexcusable."

“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time," her representative said following Spear's arrest.

Following her arrest, Spears has shared videos on social media featuring her teenage sons and a series of dance clips.

Spears, 44, has largely stepped back from her music career in recent years. She has not toured in nearly eight years and last released a studio album, “Glory,” in 2016.

She completed her Las Vegas residency, “Britney: Piece of Me,” on Dec. 31, 2017, after a four-year run at The AXIS auditorium inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

The show began in December 2013 and was extended twice due to strong demand, totaling 248 performances.

In 2021, a court ended the conservatorship that had been primarily controlled by her father, Jamie Spears, who managed her estate and personal life for more than a decade.

Spears released her bestselling memoir, “The Woman in Me,” in 2023. In her memoir, she recounted her rise to fame from a child star to pop star and her journey along the way, along with her conservatorship, relationships, and motherhood.

In April 2024, her divorce from actor and model Sam Asghari was finalized after the two were married for nearly two years.
