A Pomona man was charged with three counts of murder Tuesday after prosecutors say he deliberately rammed his truck into a police cruiser, then tore through residential streets at more than 100 mph before broadsiding a car and killing a couple whose baby was due in just three weeks, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

Marshall Campbell Judson, 31, faces a total of eight counts, including charges of fleeing a pursuing peace officer causing death, assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer, and carrying a loaded, unregistered concealed firearm, the DA's office announced Tuesday.

The victims—Marc Anthony Trejo Saldivar, 26, and his girlfriend Jennifer Alejandra Loera Zarco, 25—were pronounced dead at the scene. Loera Zarco was nine months pregnant, with an April 20 due date.

"The senseless death of a young couple just weeks away from the birth of their first child is heartbreaking and enraging," District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in the announcement. "Jennifer Loera Zarco and Marc Trejo Saldivar had their whole lives ahead of them. Now, instead of planning celebrations to welcome a newborn, their families are planning funerals."

The ordeal began around 10:11 p.m. on April 1 when Pomona police officers were responding to a domestic violence call. Judson allegedly returned to the residence and began driving aggressively near the two patrol cars on scene, then reversed directly into one of them—narrowly missing both an officer and the person who had made the domestic violence call.

Judson then allegedly drove off into the surrounding neighborhood, running stop signs, making erratic turns, and briefly crossing into oncoming traffic before hitting speeds exceeding 100 mph in a zone posted at 35 mph. The chase ended at the intersection of Garey Avenue and County Road, where Judson allegedly slammed his pickup broadside into the car carrying Trejo Saldivar and Loera Zarco. Both died at the scene.

Officers arrested Judson at the crash site. Inside his truck, police recovered a loaded, unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Friends and family have described the victims as a warm, loving couple on the cusp of a new chapter. In a GoFundMe campaign set up to cover funeral costs, relatives wrote that Trejo Saldivar—known to family as "Tiger"—was "a kind, loving and genuine person," while Loera Zarco was "full of love, warmth, and kindness." The campaign, titled "A Beautiful Farewell for Marc, Jennifer, and Baby," says the family is raising funds so the three can be honored "with the dignity and love they deserve."
A close friend of Trejo Saldivar, Joey Barry, identified the couple's unborn son as Elliot in a social media post. "This loss has shattered his family in ways no one should ever have to experience," Barry wrote.

Hochman said his office would seek the maximum possible sentence. "I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims' families and their entire community devastated by this enormous loss," he said. "Our office will prove these charges in court and seek the maximum possible sentence to ensure accountability."

Judson's arraignment was continued to April 28 in the Pomona courthouse following a hearing on April 6. He was not granted bail. If convicted on all counts, he faces 57 years to life in state prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Michelle Weiske of the Pomona Branch Office. The Pomona Police Department continues to investigate.
