Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that a car crash in the western Rivne region killed 26 people and injured 12 more.

The deadly crash involved a bus, a van and a fuel truck, the report said. The bus was apparently bound for Poland.

According to the report, the accident occurred because of a van which had attempted to overtake another vehicle, and drove into the oncoming lane where it collided with a fuel truck.

Head of the Rivne regional prosecutor’s office Andriy Rudnytsky said on Wednesday that 12 people were hospitalized, and that “among them (were) two children”.

It was not immediately how a Poland-bound bus with 34 passengers on board became part of the accident.
