Costco is recalling thousands of pounds of its Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke nationwide after tests identified a possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said.

Western United Fish Company, under the business name Annasea Foods Group, issued the recall on Sept. 20. The recall affects about 3,315 pounds of product of the Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke. It's sold in clear plastic containers with Costco item number 17193.

Consumers who purchased the recalled product are urged not to eat it, and “dispose of it immediately and visit your local Costco for a full refund,” state the FDA notice. Anyone experiencing symptoms consistent with listeriosis should contact a health care provider promptly.

According to the FDA notice, the green onions used in the poke tested positive for Listeria in a sample from the supplier. “This recall was initiated after being notified by our green onion supplier of a Listeria monocytogenes positive test result in the green onions, which were used only in Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke on 9/17/2025,” the company stated according to the recall alert.

The product itself was packaged Sept. 18, with a sell-by date of Sept. 22. “We are continuing to work with our green onion supplier to determine the root cause,” the company added.

The recalled poke was sold in Costco deli sections across 33 states. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the FDA.

According to the recall alert, the product was sold at the deli section from Costco Warehouse stores in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Listeriosis, the illness caused by the bacterium Listeria, can range from mild to severe. The FDA describes a less severe form characterized by symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, which often last one to three days.

In more severe cases, symptoms can include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. The agency warns that Listeria infection can carry “serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” and can lead to grave complications in pregnant women.

According to the company's website, “Western United Fish Company was started in Seattle, Washington, in 2000 and has evolved into six business operations worldwide under the Annasea Foods Group.”
