Costco shoppers who purchased a popular brand of heated socks are being urged to stop using them immediately after federal safety regulators announced a recall tied to more than a dozen burn injuries.
The socks, made by New York-based David Peyser Sportswear under its 32 Degrees brand, were sold in medium, large, and extra-large sizes, all in black, and retailed for between $30 and $46. The products can be identified by the "32° HEAT" label appearing on the battery pack casing, packaging, user manual, and retail packaging.
According to the CPSC, the socks can pose a burn risk when worn during high-intensity activities that generate a combination of heat, excessive friction, moisture, and pressure.
According to the commission, 14 heat-related incidents have been reported, with 13 of those involving first- or second-degree burns.
Customers who own the socks are being directed to return them to any Costco location for a full refund. For more information, consumers can contact 32 Degrees toll-free at 833-997-2452 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, or by email at [email protected]. Additional details are also available at 32degrees.com/recall.
The recall is the latest in a string of product safety actions tied to Costco merchandise. The warehouse club has faced repeated scrutiny from federal regulators in recent years over a range of products—from furniture to bedding—that have been pulled from shelves following reports of consumer injuries.
And those incidents follow a 2024 recall of a Medline Bed Assist Bar sold at Costco, where the company alerted members that people could become trapped between the bar and the mattress—creating a risk of injury or death by asphyxiation. Two deaths in the United States were linked to the product.
Federal safety regulators assigned the heated socks recall the number 26-435. The products were manufactured in China.
Customers with questions are encouraged to act quickly and reach out to 32 Degrees directly or visit Costco for a refund.
