Join NTD host Simone Gao for the second session of her exclusive interview with Dr. John Lenczowski, who served as a key Soviet affairs advisor to President Ronald Reagan.

Lenczowski served in the United States Department of State as Special Advisor to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs. From 1983 to 1987, he was Director of European and Soviet Affairs at the National Security Council. Lenczowski, arguing that America needed to handle the aggressive Soviet bloc from a position of strength, helped President Reagan form the famous policies that aided in the end of the Cold War and the collapse of communism in Europe.

After offering insights on the underlying challenges and strategic principles that would govern US-Russia relations in a Trump presidency, Lenczowski now answers questions about the direction of relations with the world’s most populous country and one of the few remaining communist states.

With the second-largest economy on earth, China exercises tremendous influence worldwide, and the US is no exception. The nature of international relations means that events in China cannot transpire in isolation. At the same time, Beijing is ideological hostile to America’s liberal founding principles, and its strategic interests come to loggerheads with Washington. How can and how should the United States negotiate these contradictory realities?

Let’s hear it from Dr. John Lenczowski.
