The 18-year-old woman who was found dead inside a Boston home owned by the husband of Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) has been identified by her family as Yoseliani Marte.
“Domestic violence has taken a beautiful young life far too soon. We hope that, through the love and support of this community, my family can find comfort in knowing we are not facing this tragedy alone,” her mother wrote on the site.
“No words can truly express the pain of losing someone so young, with so many dreams, hopes, and milestones still ahead of her,” she added. “Yoseliani was deeply loved by her family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched. Her kindness, beautiful spirit, and bright future will never be forgotten.”
Speaking to local media outlet Boston 25, her mother said that a perpetrator fatally shot her daughter and that she knows who is responsible but did not name a suspect.
Authorities are investigating Marte’s death after police found her with a fatal gunshot wound at the residence on Malta Street in the Mattapan neighborhood on July 18.
Boston police responded to the home after receiving a report involving a person in need of investigation.
According to public property records, the property where Marte was found is owned by Conan Harris, the husband of Pressley, who has represented Massachusetts' 7th congressional district since 2019. Her district includes a large portion of Boston and parts of a half dozen communities. Pressley has become widely known as a member of a group of progressive House members known as the Squad.
NTD reached out to Pressley’s office for comment but did not receive a response by publication. NTD also reached out to the Boston Police Department seeking more information about the incident and the status of the investigation.
Officials have not announced any arrests or publicly identified a suspect.
Meanwhile, neighbors held a candlelight vigil outside the residence on Sunday.
“We got home and there were police coming down the street, they blocked off with crime tape over there and neighbors gathered around,” one neighbor told Boston 25. “I mean it’s sad, it’s really sad cause you know this neighborhood is a wonderful place to be.”
The GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $9,500 toward funeral costs, with a goal of reaching $16,000.
