Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is engaged to her art director boyfriend, Cooke Maroney, multiple media outlets reported.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Lawrence's representative confirmed to Page 6 that Lawrence and Mahoney are indeed engaged after dating since last June.
They Met Through a Mutual Friend
Lawrence and Maroney were introduced by mutual friend Laura Simpson, reported the publication. "They met through Jen's friend Laura," a source previously told Page 6 in June of last year, saying the relationship had "been going on a few weeks" at the time the news broke, but they had "been very private and careful not to be seen together."Who is Cooke Maroney?
Maroney is a part of New York's art scene and is a director at Gladstone 64, a gallery on Manhattan's Upper East Side, reported The Cut. His clients include Lena Dunham's father, Carroll Dunham; Richard Prince, Anish Kapoor, Ugo Rondinone, and Bjork's ex-partner, Matthew Barney, according to Page 6 and The Cut. Before that, Mahoney worked at the Gagosian gallery after studying art history at NYU. And before that, he grew up with his parents in Vermont, reported Elle.Within the art world, Maroney seems to be a respected player. "He's definitely respected. He's not a big player, but he's a player," a contact who knows him from the art world told The Cut.
"In the art world, the way information is shared is rapidly changing," he said at the time. "A growing group of internet-savvy collectors are searching for art online with galleries eager to provide it."
While Maroney appears totally absent from Facebook and Twitter, with only a private Instagram page just shy of 2,000 followers, he's no stranger to parties. "He's definitely fun-loving but I wouldn't say he's out of control," a source told The Cut. "He likes to have fun, a young good New York guy who likes to participate and have fun."
Lawrence is known for her role in the 2012 romantic comedy "Silver Linings Playbook," where she won the Oscar as best actress. She is also known for her role as the heroine archer Katniss Everdene in the blockbuster "Hunger Games" film series. She's been nominated for three other Oscars for her roles in "Winter's Bone," "American Hustle," and "Joy."
