Comedian and late night host Seth Meyers was called out by Megyn Kelly and others for sending out an insensitive tweet as President Donald Trump gave his Oval Office speech regarding border security.
Meyers sent this tweet: “Is this Oval Office: SVU?”
Trump spoke to the nation on the night of Jan. 8, addressing concerns about border wall funding and how illegal migration is affecting the United States. He shared specific cases of people who entered the country illegally and then committed horrible crimes.
Trump brought up the recent killing of California police officer Ronil Singh, who was allegedly murdered by an illegal alien during a traffic stop. He also raised other examples.
The tweet by Meyers was criticized for making light of the victims.
“I’m sure that’s hysterical to the families of the murder victims the president just discussed,” media personality Megyn Kelly, replied.
“These are real people who have lost loved ones. It doesn’t matter what side of this issue you’re on. This is disgusting,” commented Logan Leasure.
“just wondering if there was anything less funny than seth meyers - turns out, it's his twitter feed,” TV show host Greg Gutfeld commented.
Even before the president gave the speech, Meyers said he didn’t like the fact that networks agreed to broadcast the president's speech, according to his show's Twitter account.
The insensitive tweet already has 5,700 comments.
After Trump gave his Oval Office speech, Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer gave their response, which was criticized due to their stoic, stiff demeanor. Even Seth Meyers poked fun at them.
“Chuck and Nancy look like the picture your grandparents took after the Circle Line tour,” Meyers wrote in his tweet.
In Trump’s speech, he addressed how Democratic leaders, including Pelosi and Schumer, voted for a wall before he was president, but have decided to stand against it now. Neither Pelosi nor Schumer responded to this.
“Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time. I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security, which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!” Trump said in his tweet on Jan. 9, the day after his speech.
