“Fuller House” season 5 began production this week with all of its stars save for Lori Loughlin, who is facing up to 40 years in prison as part of the nationwide bribery scheme.

Loughlin played Aunt Becky in “Full House” and reprised her role in “Fuller House,” which follows the younger generation but retained most cast members from the original show.

John Stamos, Loughlin’s on-screen husband, Bob Saget, and Jodie Sweetin are among the cast members who are in both shows.

Sweetin, who plays Stephanie Tanner, announced that season 5 was in production in a post on Instagram, writing, “We’re baaaaaack!”

“Season 5 table read today and back to rehearsal next week! Woo hoo!! #fullhousefamily #season5 #fullerhouse #sogoodtobeback,” she wrote.

Candance Cameron Bure, who plays D.J. Tanner, also posted on Instagram about the show.

Last week, she shared a picture of herself and two co-stars, indicating that while production may have started this week, filming would not start just yet.

“3 weeks till we start filming season 5 of Fuller House!!!” she said.

Season 5 will be the last season for “Fuller House”

Loughlin, who had appeared in 13 episodes across four seasons of the show, was reportedly dropped from the show in mid-March, just days after she and husband Mossimo Giannulli were indicted in the nationwide college bribery scam. Loughlin also lost her roles on The Hallmark Channel.

Prosecutors said that Loughlin and Giannulli paid $500,000 in bribes to get their daughters, 20-year-old Isabella and 19-year-old Olivia Jade, into the University of Southern California.

The bribes went to William “Rick” Singer, who had the girls designated as athletic recruits despite their lack of athletic experience.

While Felicity Huffman and some other parents charged in the scheme pleaded guilty in exchange for lighter sentences, Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against them, a plea experts said was a big risk.

“If they have real physical evidence against Lori Loughlin, she and her husband are going to be in for a quick guilty verdict and a big punishment,” CBS News legal analyst Rikki Klieman said.

While the parents could change their minds at a later date and shift to a guilty plea, they may have to settle for a harsher agreement than ones given to Huffman and the dozen others who took the deal already.

“If at some point, they should change their mind, the question is how much aggravation have they caused the government so far as well as looking at how they have finally come to grips with taking responsibility,” Klieman said.

Joseph Simons, a Boston criminal defense attorney, told Hollywood Life that Loughlin likely won’t be able to avoid prison.

“Unlike state cases, in federal cases, the best deals are often the first ones offered. In this case, it appears that her decision to plead not guilty has already backfired. She is now facing additional charges that may significantly increase the likelihood—and length—of a prison term if she is convicted,” Simons said.
