More than a decade's worth of grill brushes are now at the center of a major safety recall—and anyone who has bought a wire grill brush at Home Depot in the last 11 years should take a close look at what's hanging near their barbecue.

Nexgrill Industries, Inc., a Chino, California-based company, is recalling approximately 10.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which announced the recall Thursday.

The CPSC said the tiny wire bristles can break free from the brush and cling to the grill grates or embed in food—and once swallowed, they can cause serious internal injuries requiring surgery.

The recalled brushes, which feature either black plastic or wood handles and range from 18 to 21 inches in length, were sold exclusively through Home Depot stores and homedepot.com from 2015 through 2026. Prices ranged from approximately $5 to $15.

The scope of the recall is broad. Six model numbers are affected: 530-0024, 530-0024G, 530-0034, 530-0039, 530-0041, and 530-0042—covering products like the 19-Inch Grill Brush, the Grill Cleaning Brush with Scraper, the Long Handle Grill Brush, the Grill Brush and Scraper, the Grill Brush with Scrub Pad, and the Wood Handle Grill Brush. All carry the "Nexgrill" name on them, and model numbers can be found on the original packaging.

The hazard has affected dozens of customers. Nexgrill is aware of at least 68 reports and reviews where small wire bristles detached from the brushes. Among those, five consumers swallowed metal bristles and sought medical treatment to have them removed from their throat or digestive tract, the agency said.

Consumers who own any of the affected brushes should stop using them immediately. To receive a full refund—issued as a gift card—owners must contact Nexgrill, obtain a registration code, and upload a photo of their brush along with their initials and code to the recall website. A confirmation email will follow with instructions on how to properly dispose of the brush.

Nexgrill can be reached toll-free at 800-942-1498, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, or through the company's recall portal at nexgrill.mktpoint.com/recall. The recall is listed under CPSC recall number 26-339. The brushes were manufactured in China and imported by Nexgrill Industries, Inc.

Earlier this year, Weber Inc., a manufacturer of charcoal, gas, and electric outdoor grills, recalled approximately 3.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes due to a similar potential hazard.  That recall affected brushes sold from 2021 to 2026, with various handles made of plastic or bamboo and measuring 12 to 21 inches long.
