The Army has released the names of the four soldiers who died when their MH-60 Black Hawk helicopter <a href="https://www.ntd.com/4-soldiers-killed-in-black-hawk-helicopter-crash-in-washington-state_1091837.html">crashed</a> during a training exercise in rural Thurston County last week.

“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the loss of four brave Soldiers from the 160th SOAR (A) in the Sept. 17 aircraft mishap near Joint Base Lewis-McChord,” Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll <a href="https://x.com/SecArmy/status/1970152384295739840">posted</a> on X.

The victims are chief warrant officers Andrew Cully and Andrew Kraus, and sergeants Donavon Scott and Jadalyn Good, the Army said Monday in a release.

Cully, 35, was from Sparta, Missouri. Kraus, 39, was from Sanibel, Florida. Scott, 25, was from Tacoma, Washington, and Good, 23, was from Mount Vernon, Washington.

“These Soldiers embodied courage, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the mission. Their loss is deeply felt across the Special Operations community,” Driscoll said. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, and teammates. We are grateful to the first responders and recovery teams. The legacy of these Night Stalkers will forever live on. Night Stalkers Don’t Quit.”

The helicopter went down around 9 p.m. Wednesday while conducting a routine training mission west of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, according to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command. The base is about 10 miles south of Tacoma.

Residents near Summit Lake, west of Olympia, reported hearing an extremely loud noise followed by explosions. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies discovered the wreckage, but initial rescue efforts were delayed because the crash ignited a wildfire that burned about an acre before it was contained.

“Our hearts are with the families, friends, and teammates of these Night Stalkers,” Lt. Gen. Jonathan Braga, commander of U.S. Army Special Operations Command, said. “They were elite warriors who embodied the highest values of the Army and the Army Special Operations, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Law enforcement, firefighters, and personnel from the joint base assisted with recovery efforts.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The National Weather Service reported clear skies and light winds at the time.

The four soldiers belonged to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known as the “Night Stalkers.” The elite unit provides specialized rotary-wing support for U.S. special operations forces and is recognized for its expertise in nighttime missions.

“Known as Night Stalkers, these soldiers are recognized for their proficiency in nighttime operations,” the website said. “They are highly trained and ready to accomplish the very toughest missions in all environments, anywhere in the world, day or night, with unparalleled precision.”
