Leon says the State of the Union is set to be overshadowed by government shutdown optics—the third during Trump’s 2 presidencies—and that we don’t know what theatrics might occur, though he doesn’t expect any unifying messages.

Kinnett agrees about the theatrics and also asserts that the speech is unlikely to bring any surprises. He adds that the president has the opportunity to be inspiring, but he doesn’t expect it.
