Meanwhile, terrorist group Hamas responded to a U.S.-backed cease-fire proposal, agreeing to release 28 Israeli hostages—both living and deceased—while demanding a permanent cease-fire and a full Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza. Writing on X, U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff called the response “totally unacceptable.”
