Who will actually govern the Gaza Strip after the current Israel–Hamas conflict has concluded? What would a leadership system for the Palestinians in Gaza—that would bring lasting peace and stability—look like?

NTD spoke to Gerard Filitti, senior counsel at The Lawfare Project, to find out what we can expect from Secretary of State Antony Blinken's tour of the Middle East. He said that Mr. Blinken is likely trying to drum up support among Israel's Arab neighbors and Turkey for a pathway to some form of Palestinian statehood—in exchange for the normalization of relations with the state of Israel.

"Arab countries and the U.S. are ready to step in economically," he said. "But we need to see how Palestinians can govern themselves."

"The common ground is everyone wants a path forward to peace in the region, and the dissolution of the terrorist regimes that are governing the Palestinian people," said Mr. Filitti. "This is something that Israel is very much interested in doing. But the question is, how will we get there? And Secretary Blinken is delivering support, in a way, from Arab countries for a peaceful resolution to the conflict after this war is done."
