The United States on Wednesday <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/us-targets-crude-oil-tankers-firms-new-venezuela-related-sanctions-treasury-2025-12-31/">sanctioned four companies</a> for operating in Venezuela’s oil sector and identified four associated oil tankers as blocked property.

The vessels, according to the Trump administration, continue to provide financial resources that fuel Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s regime.

“President Trump has been clear: We will not allow the illegitimate Maduro regime to profit from exporting oil while it floods the United States with deadly drugs,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0348">statement.</a> "The Treasury Department will continue to implement President Trump’s campaign of pressure on Maduro’s regime.”

Bessent also said that Wednesday’s action further signals that those involved in the Venezuelan oil trade continue to face significant sanctions risks.

Wednesday’s sanctions mark the latest efforts in Trump's pressure campaign against Maduro. The United States has ramped-up military presence in the region and conducted more than two dozen military strikes on vessels allegedly trafficking drugs in the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea near the South American nation.

The lethal strikes have sparked major concerns among lawmakers who have questioned the president’s actions in authorizing the strikes.

Additionally, Trump earlier this month announced a blockade of all sanctioned vessels going in or out of Venezuelan waters as part of a strategy to pressure Maduro, a move that has slashed oil exports this month to about half of their November level.

In <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0348">Wednesday’s new sanctions,</a> NORD STAR has been named as one of the vessels that has transported Venezuelan oil.

The ship’s registered owner Corniola Limited, and ship manager and operator Krape Myrtle Co LTD, are being sanctioned for operating in the oil sector of the Venezuelan economy. Additionally, NORD STAR has been identified as blocked property in which the two companies have an interest, the Treasury said.

ROSALIND, also known as LUNAR TIDE, has also been involved in transporting Venezuelan oil. Its registered owner, Winky International Limited, has also been sanctioned for operating in the oil sector of the Venezuelan economy. The Trump administration also identified ROSALIND as blocked property in which its owner has an interest, according to the U.S. Treasury.

The freshly-imposed sanctions also target DELLA, whose registered owner is Aries Global Investment LTD, for transporting Venezuelan oil. Aries Global Investment has been sanctioned in the latest round of actions by the Trump administration. DELLA and VALIANT, another oil tanker, have been labeled as blocked property.

Maduro himself was sanctioned by the United States in 2017.

Trump has recently escalated the pressure on Maduro by targeting his family, extended relatives, and any entities supporting him.

Maduro has denied he has been involved in any criminal activity.
