A California-based company is pulling hundreds of thousands of coin battery packs from the market after federal regulators found the packaging failed to meet child-resistant standards.

More than 312,000 lithium coin battery packs sold on Amazon are being recalled by a company in Redlands, Southern California, after federal safety officials determined the packaging poses a potentially deadly risk to young children, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

EEMB USA, which does business as A2batt, Inc., announced the recall on May 7. The products were sold in individual white pouches bearing the company name in the upper left corner, with the battery type printed directly on the front of each coin battery.

The recall covers 11 battery models: the widely used CR2032 and CR2025 batteries, as well as CR2450, CR2477, CR2016, CR1220, CR1225, CR1616, CR1620, CR1632, and CR2025-10. The batteries were sold in five-, 10-, and 20-packs, available on Amazon.com from August 2023 through April 2026, for between $3 and $9.

At the center of the recall is a federal law known as Reese's Law, which requires that coin and button cell batteries be sold in child-resistant packaging.

Button cell and coin batteries, while small, are among the most dangerous household items for young children. If swallowed, the batteries can cause internal chemical burns and death, according to the commission.

No injuries or incidents have been reported in connection with the recall.

Consumers are urged to stop using the batteries immediately and store them somewhere out of reach of children. EEMB USA is offering a full refund. Customers can reach the company by email at [email protected] or through the company's website at www.eemb.com by clicking the "Recall" button at the top of the page. The batteries were manufactured in China.

Unsecured Battery Compartment

The recall is one of two recent CPSC recalls involving button cell battery dangers. On April 16, the agency announced a separate recall of about 51,160 Lil' Buddies Pet Laser Toys. Those products, sold for about $1 at discount stores across the country and online, were found to have an unsecured battery compartment that allowed children to easily access the button cell batteries inside.

The Lil' Buddies toys, model 24496—white with small blue paw prints on the casing—also failed to include required warning labels and were not packaged with child-resistant battery packaging as mandated under Reese's Law. The toys were imported by Shims Bargain, Inc., doing business as JC Sales, of Los Angeles, and manufactured in China.

JC Sales is offering full refunds and can be reached toll-free at 866-540-3334 or by email at [email protected]. Customers seeking a refund will be asked to email a photograph of the disposed items. No injuries have been reported in connection with that recall either.
