Patrick Muldoon, an actor who became a familiar face to soap opera and television audiences in the 1990s, died Sunday at age 57.

His manager confirmed his death to Variety. A cause of death has not been officially released, but Deadline reported Muldoon died after a heart attack. He died Sunday, April 19.

Muldoon rose to prominence in the 1990s as the original Austin Reed on NBC’s daytime drama “Days of Our Lives,” a role he played from 1992 to 1995 and again from 2011 to 2012. He also starred on the prime-time series “Melrose Place,” portraying Richard Hart.

At the time of his death, Muldoon had multiple projects in development or recently completed. IMDb lists the film “Dirty Hands,” in which he played Richie Denton, as scheduled for release to digital platforms on April 24.
In an Instagram post just days before his death, he wrote, "So excited to be a part of this amazing project KOCKROACH directed by Matt Ross starring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Edgerton, Zazzie Beetz, and Alec Baldwin. Filming now in Australia." Muldoon was credited as an executive producer on the film.
On April 10, he posted a video titled “Family Table Jam,” showing him playing the guitar as a large family sat around the table happily singing together on Easter Day.
On April 20, his sister, Shana Zappa, reposted the video and wrote, “Today we woke up and realized yesterday was not just a bad dream. Thank you for the outpouring. We are in shock. Those that knew my brother knew he is the brightest light in every room, in any moment, on any day. I believe he is continuing to be so in spirit.”

“I don’t have words at this time other than I choose to remember him like this from just Easter Sunday. In his most authentic self- singing, bringing joy and magic, and surrounded with those he loved,” his sister wrote. “We don’t have details on any celebration of life at this time as we are devastated and just trying to process how someone so happy, healthy, and full of life is suddenly taken from this earth.”

His acting career spanned more than three decades and included more than 95 film and television credits, according to IMDb. Muldoon’s work ranged from TV movies and series to feature films, including the 1997 science-fiction film “Starship Troopers,” in which he played Zander Barcalow.

Muldoon began his career with early television appearances, including a role on “Saved by the Bell” in 1991, according to IMDb.

He played football at the University of Southern California, where he was also a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

He later trained in acting through a two-year Meisner technique program at the Baron Brown Studio in Santa Monica. He continued to work steadily in film and television throughout the 2000s and 2010s.

Muldoon is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart; his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr.; his sister, Shana, and her husband, Ahmet Zappa; and his niece and his nephew, according to Variety.
