The Pima County Sheriff gave a statement in what it described as “information circulating online related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation.”
“We are aware of reports regarding an anonymous tip related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation that was provided to a group in Mexico. At this time, we have not been contacted by Mexican authorities,” Nanos said.
Nanos said that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and the sheriff’s department “will continue to follow up on any credible information.”
The group searched an area west of Nogales, near the Mariposa region along the border strip with Arizona, but came up empty. Authorities have not confirmed the tip's credibility, and no evidence has been publicly identified.
According to the Mexican news outlet, searchers with the Buscando Corazones group previously found more than 25 clandestine graves in the same area and recovered the remains of at least 32 people between April and May.
A clandestine grave is a hidden, illegal burial site containing human remains.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Feb. 1 from her home near Tucson, Arizona. Investigators have said she was taken against her will. The FBI and local law enforcement continue to investigate the disappearance. No suspects have been publicly identified.
The FBI is offering up to $100,000 for information leading to Guthrie’s location or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance. The family has also announced a separate $1 million reward for information leading to her recovery.
Savannah Guthrie said, “I cry every morning on the way to work and every day on the way home.” She made a public plea for information, saying, “I wish someone would call and say what they know.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-225-5324 or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
