A popular camping cot and stretcher sold at Walmart and Amazon.com were recalled after reports of injuries.
“The backrest fold mechanism can pinch consumers’ fingers, posing laceration and amputation hazards,” the CPSC said. “The firm has received seven reports of the seatback adjustment mechanism pinching consumers’ fingers, including two reports of fractured fingers.”
The recall applies to 438 in Canada and 228,760 Converta camping cots with model numbers 2000003077 and 2000020282 and Converta camping suspension stretchers with model number 2000020290 in the United States.
Company leaders did not respond to requests for comment.
The beds were sold at Walmart and other stores nationwide as well as on Amazon.com from January 2011 through March 2025 for between $60 and $80.
“What’s surprising is that this product was sold for over a decade, since 2011, with nearly 230,000 units out there, and only now they’re issuing a recall,” West Covina, California personal injury attorney Lem Garcia told NTD. “Either the injuries weren’t reported, or they were ignored until the legal risk became too big to ignore.”
The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled camping cots and suspension stretchers and to contact The Coleman Company for a free repair kit that includes installation instructions.
“The company does not appear to offer any refund, which is unfortunate,” Florida and New Jersey personal injury attorney Jason Turchin told NTD. “There is a risk for customers to install the repair kit incorrectly.”
Coleman further states on its website that the repair kit can be easily installed, will reduce the risk of fingers contacting or getting pinched by the back hinge and that their product instructions warn against adjusting the chair while seated.
"The repair kit will include a locking device that, once installed, prevents the back of the cot from lying against the product's legs when in a horizontal position," Coleman said on its website that's dedicated to repair instructions.
