The latest government data shows that public schools lost 1.4 million children between 2019 and 2020.

The kids leaving are mostly in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. This drop is very abnormal, because enrollment numbers were pretty steady for the past decade up to 2019.

This drop also coincides with a wave of schools shutting down.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Jefferson county, Colorado, voted to shut down 16 schools. Oakland, California, 7 schools. St. Paul Minnesota, 5 schools. Denver Colorado may shut down 10. Indianapolis, Indiana may shut down 6.
