Pura Scents Inc. is recalling more than 850,000 of its Pura 4 Smart Home Fragrance Diffusers after discovering that magnets in the device’s detachable cover can come loose, posing a serious ingestion hazard to children.
The hazard stems from a total of five magnets—three small and two larger ones—embedded in the diffuser’s removable front cover. If these high-powered magnets detach and are swallowed, they can attract each other or other metal objects inside the body, leading to life-threatening complications such as intestinal perforation, twisting, blockages, infections, blood poisoning, and even death, according to the recall.
So far, Pura Scents has received three reports of magnets detaching from the product. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Consumers are urged to immediately remove and dispose of the existing detachable cover and keep the diffuser out of reach of children and pets. Pura Scents is offering a free replacement cover as a remedy. In addition, Pura Scents is contacting all known purchasers directly.
Affected devices can be identified by serial numbers ranging from JX230000001 to JX230801425 and JX240000001 to JX240049959, which is found on the rear label above the metal prongs. Each diffuser measures approximately 4 inches by 4 inches.
