The Chinese Communist Party is continuing its trend of trying to take advantage of the U.S. legal system as part of a "lawfare" strategy to advance its interests. This time, the CCP is targeting Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) with a $50 billion lawsuit.

The lawsuit accuses Schmitt, FBI co-deputy director Andrew Bailey, and the state of Missouri of damaging China’s reputation through what it calls malicious litigation.

They are being sued by the People’s Government of Wuhan Municipality, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, several years after Schmitt sued the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
