On the afternoon of April 13, Bryan Tepper, a member of the British Columbia Provincial Parliament in Canada, watched the last performance of Shen Yun in Vancouver with his wife and three children. He presented a congratulatory letter to Shen Yun Performing Arts and the organizers. Mr. Tepper also praised the level of work behind Shen Yun’s annual production, from the choreography to the classical stories.

Mr. Tepper said: “It's fantastic. I can't imagine the amount of preparation and lead-up that goes into this to redo it every year, music, the choreography, it's pretty amazing. My favorite part is the story-based performance portions. The dancing is wonderful, but you get the intrigue from the classical stories. That's what I enjoy the most.”

Shen Yun also presents stories of modern-day courage by people of faith. Specifically, practitioners of a traditional Chinese meditation system for the mind and body, Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa. The Chinese Communist Party began persecuting members of the practice after it became fearful that the system’s principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance would encourage free thinking among Chinese people and loosen the communist regime’s control over them.

Mr. Tepper expressed his hope for an end to the persecution of Falun Dafa, which has persisted for over two decades. “I would love for [the persecution] to stop. I don't know what we [can] do. China has moved ahead with this despite the world saying it needs to end. I think we need to keep putting pressure on it. It's a horrible practice that is going on, and we just need free people everywhere. Everybody's culture is fantastic. We bring it forward, and the past cultures add to today's values. And the end of the show is bringing that to the forefront and showing that our traditions of freedom are what we need to see going forward. We need it in today's society. I think it's fantastic and I love the message. I would love to come back next year. So, we should be back. I can't imagine missing it.”
