HAMILTON, Canada—Shen Yun Performing Arts kicked off the Canadian leg of its 2026 world tour at the First Ontario Concert Hall in Hamilton, Canada, on March 12. In the audience was Ned Kuruc, a Canadian Member of Parliament, who congratulated the artists for their artistry and skill.

“I think it's a big eye opener. I think here in the Western world, we don't see things like this. So I encourage everyone to come see it. Because China has some of one of the oldest civilizations on the planet. But ever since communism stepped in, it's wiped out a lot of that history. I think they're doing a phenomenal job. I was delighted and I know a little bit about Chinese history and I learned a lot more. So it's an enjoyable experience to sit and kind of walk back through time,” MP Kuruc said.

“In the water dance, those corals and the whites, everything, all the detail in all the costumes, the sparkles, everything—the way that the colors transition from one to another, the fading of the colors or the almost airbrush effect—it's definitely a feast for the eyes,” artist Nicole Shaw said.

MP Kuruc said, “I enjoyed it. Their voices were absolutely beautiful. Most of the lyrics were very righteous, if I could put it that way, and I think that's lost. And I think people need to focus on that a little bit more.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from “China before communism.” Through classical Chinese dance, music, and a patented digital backdrop, Shen Yun took audience members on a journey through ancient China.

MP Kuruc said, “What we learned in the show was that acrobatics and some gymnastics moves actually stem from Chinese dance from thousands of years ago. So that's new. I didn't know that. That was very interesting to me, but very beautiful, very beautiful!”

Glenn Edwards, a company CEO, said, “The masculinity, the femininity. I notice the women dance on their own and the men dance on their own. They have a femininity to themselves as well. But also, the masculinity of what [the men] do—it's phenomenal to watch.”

Ms. Shaw said, “I was noticing we better take notice of what's happening in the background. It's not just a stagnant image, there's a lot happening there. And how the characters end up going into the screen. Oh my God, I love it.” She added, “A lot of it, so much of it, is like magic. I'm going to remember this for so long. It's beautiful.”

Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006, and has grown to eight different companies. Each year, Shen Yun brings a brand-new performance, with new dances, music and costumes to audiences around the world.

Mr. Edwards said, “To see that kind of talent and the work and the effort and everything goes into it, it's just incredible. It's amazing to watch.”

Ms. Shaw said, “It's a feast for the eyes and you should come. You'll love it and probably come again and again. It's just beautiful. It fills your soul.”

MP Kuruc said, “I'd like to say congratulations on 20 years. And I would like to say, I hope that they last another 20, 20, 20, 20 and many more. So I think 20 years is a massive milestone.”

Shen Yun will present 20 performances across Canada, with shows in Mississauga, Kitchener, Toronto and Vancouver.
