Shen Yun Performing Arts took audiences at the Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, on a journey through ancient China on April 16, captivating the audience with 5,000 years of rich cultural heritage from before communism.

“I think there's athleticism, but yet grace and beauty and poise. So it's just seamless, the transition from one to another. It’s beautiful,” said Greg Mesa, an entrepreneur. “I love the beauty portrayed, the background, the scenery, and then the grace and elegance of the people.”

“The music was beautiful. And the combination, just to hear some of the original Chinese instruments in combination with the Western instruments. The music was absolutely wonderful,” said Carol Dell, a physician.

Nancy Borrell, a former federal executive, said the performance was “exquisite, the skill is superb in the artistry. To me, it's a 10 out of a 10.”

“I was mesmerized. The dancing was just amazing. The whole dancing thing was amazing,” said Sandra Raines, a dance instructor. “It was done exceptionally well, because I was watching as the music would go up, the dancing would get very elaborate. As it would go down, it was very soft. The choreography of the whole thing was amazing.”

Traditional Chinese culture and values find their roots in the divine, which Shen Yun showcases through classical dance, music, and storytelling. Theatergoers took note of a deeper message and praised Shen Yun’s efforts to share it with the world.

“It really resonates with me. I think that we are human beings with the spark of the divine in all of us. That spark to be a better person, to bring love and mercy and grace to the world. And it was refreshing for me, growing up on this side of the world and always seeing China through the modern lens of communism or atheism or agnosticism, and not really realizing until tonight, just how deeply spiritually rooted the people in Asia are,” said Mesa. “Inspiring, just keep up. The message is there, whether it's in verbal form or like we're seeing tonight in artistic form, it resonates with us.”

Borrell said: “I was very touched by the heavenly message throughout the show. It was really special to me, especially when the gentleman was singing that song that connected us to higher power.”

“I think they were perfection, they were absolutely perfect. It was a real experience, so I'll never forget,” said Dell.

Shen Yun will be performing at the Proctors in Schenectady, New York, on April 22 and 23.
