Shen Yun Performing Arts presented three performances at the Marcus Performing Arts Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on March 21 and 22. Audience members praised the performances as spectacular, saying they conveyed an important spiritual message.

Joseph O’Grady, an associate professor of medicine, said, “It was a wonderful show. Very good. The costumes and the performance. I think the spiritual message is really important as well. And I would just recommend that people come see it and come see it again.”

Jim Gugg, a jewelry designer, said, “The backdrop is stunning. I mean, it’s unbelievable when you first see it. It’s almost like magic. It’s very, very nice. The costumes, the flowing material and everything is just beautiful. The motion is wonderful. It all is just so choreographed beautifully. I mean, it’s just wonderful.”

DK Mueller, a business owner, said, “It was wonderful. It almost made me want to cry. It was so beautiful. And the art, the dancing, it was expressive, and the stories that it told were just wonderful. I can’t sit more than 20 minutes for anything, but I sat through the whole thing, and it was wonderful.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism, through classical Chinese dance and music. A culture that the Chinese regime has been seeking to destroy since taking power in 1949.

Mr. Gugg said, “It was very nice to see them promoting their religious beliefs and their culture and what they believe in. And it was sad to see how it’s being restricted and beaten down. It’s just a sad thing. And that’s going on now.”

Joanne Gugg, a business owner, said, “I think they did a very good job of especially teaching us who have lived in America our whole lives some of the traditional dance and the beauty of the culture. And I hope that it won’t be lost. I hope that it’s something that can continue.”

Mr. Gugg said, “It is very nice. And it’s just a small taste of the culture in dance and art.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun has been performing around the world since 2006 and has grown to eight equally large companies touring simultaneously.

Mr. Gugg said, “You guys are amazing. They do an excellent job. I’m just amazed. They’re excellent performers. Hats off to them.”

Mr. O’Grady said, “Thank you for your courage in your performing and in doing the work that you do and the message that you have. Come see it. It’s worth it. It’s a great show. It just celebrates beauty in life.”

Shen Yun will continue performances in New York City until April 12 and will be in Boston, Massachusetts, from April 10 to April 12.
