Shen Yun Performing Arts began a five-day run in Kyoto, Japan, on April 22, taking audience members on a journey through ancient China, with many saying the performance's artistic beauty moved them to tears and profoundly inspired them.

Takumi Izumi, a former performer of Huis Ten Bosch, said, “I just finished watching the performance. Learning about China’s 5,000 years of history and discovering Shen Yun made me feel truly grateful from the bottom of my heart. I was deeply moved. Even now, as I think back on it, my emotions are still overwhelming, and I can hardly hold back my tears. I’m not exaggerating, I truly feel that way.”

“Whether it was the costumes or the traditional Chinese music and other elements rich in cultural heritage, everything was truly outstanding. In addition, the performers’ high-level techniques and graceful dance movements deeply moved me,” said Hideki Kinoshita, a director of Kinoshita Circus.

Hiroshi Midorikawa, a doctor, said, “The performers displayed skills that seemed almost divine. I could never reach that level myself, all I can do is admire them in awe.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism, through classical Chinese dance and music.

Koki Harigae, a construction management engineer, said, “I saw online that the Chinese Communist Party has been putting pressure on various countries in an attempt to stop Shen Yun’s performances. Knowing that Shen Yun has been under such tremendous pressure made me want to come see it even more.”

“Seeing the younger generation display such extraordinary skill today, I believe it would be truly meaningful for this art to continue being passed down as part of traditional culture,” said Mr. Midorikawa.

Based in New York, Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006, and brings an all-new performance each year.

Mr. Harigae said, “All the members, whether they are hungry or tired, when I hear that they’ve been holding back those urges and practicing all the time, it really made me realize how soft I still am, and it served as motivation for me to work harder myself.”

Ms. Izumi said, “First, please come visit, and just take it in however you feel. That alone is enough, because you are all so wonderful.”

Shen Yun has concluded its 2026 world tour but will return to Toronto, Canada, with five new performances starting on June 25th, following a string of cancellations earlier this year.
