‘Magical’ and ‘Sublime’: Shen Yun Captivates Paris Theatergoers

April 18, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts took the stage in Paris, France, from April 4 through April 7, successfully closing the curtain on 5 performances and captivating audiences with classical Chinese dance and music.

“It was a very interesting show. Magnificent, magical, and with a sublime choreography. It was quite rare, very nice, and it was very coordinated. I loved it,” said Franck Leze, a senior official at the Ministry of the Economy and Finance.

“I loved being able to engage with the story, the history, the dance, being swept along with the music and the movement,” said John Lange, a museum director and a founding trustee at the Story Museum Oxford.

“The decor, the dancers, the costumes. There is truly magic that emerges from this show,” said Ludovic Chambrin, a hair salon owner.

Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values from before communism. Theatergoers took note of Shen Yun’s efforts and the performance’s message.

“Kindness, peace, harmony, goodwill between people, there are many manifestations of this,” said Eric Filiol, a research director.

“It would be great if Western society could also live up to its values, and we need to learn a lot from the show,” he added.

“The performance prompts us to try to trace the past, reflect on the current society, and think about rediscovering ancient values,” said Mr. Leze.

Jean-Marc Leprovost, a real estate agent, resonated with the values presented in Shen Yun’s performance.

“I felt a connection to those values, particularly kindness. I am moved by these values and I agree with them very much,” he said.

“Benevolence is the common thread throughout the performance, as well as compassion, and compassion for all beings in the finale,” said Romuald Gorenflos, the regional director of SDIS60, the departmental fire and security service.

Audience members said they felt uplifted by the stories and values highlighted on stage.

“I felt something happen to me. I felt lighter, I felt an enormous sense of joy and happiness,” said Mr. Lange.

“I’m still smiling. I felt enormous joy and uplift and an amazing feeling at the end of it, and I’m still feeling it now. I think it was a feast not just for the senses, but for your soul,” he added.

“The performance brings calmness and, above all, optimism. The show was beautiful and I wholeheartedly recommend it,” said Mr. Gorenflos.

Jean-Marc Deflandre, the company administrator for EURO TRAFIC, thinks that what Shen Yun presents is also important for the world today.

“The performance brings poetry and magic to a world that is increasingly losing its mind. It is definitely worth watching. Although it is only a short two hours, it is what we urgently need.”

Shen Yun will perform in Lyon, France, from April 16 through April 21.
