Placer County Supervisor Shanti Landon presented her congratulatory letter, honoring the company’s efforts.
“Shen Yun has earned a distinguished reputation for its exceptional dedication to reviving 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture through classical Chinese dance, original orchestral compositions, and stunning visual design,” Ms. Landon wrote.
“Northern California is fortunate to host their performances, and our communities benefit greatly from the richness and diversity they bring to the cultural landscape,” Ms. Landon said.
She said the performance was “excellent” and that she learned a lot.
“I had never heard of the stories that were in the performance and just the costumes and the music and learning about the culture and the history was really fascinating ... It's really exciting to know that there is kind of a movement happening to help bring back some of that old tradition and culture to make sure it doesn't die out and that it still remains part of the future,” Ms. Landon said.
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive authentic Chinese culture predating communism, one it describes as divinely inspired.
Michael Porrazzo, a physicist, said: “I thought that you did such a great blend, even in the darkest hour when the practitioners were being persecuted by the Chinese [regime] and really organs being removed from them, that you gave such a way of hope to show that if your inner strength is there, that despite the darkest of circumstances, there's a Creator who loves you and that you will ultimately be able to be redeemed. Absolutely, fantastic message, wonderful.”
Peter Wallis, an attorney, said: “It’s an amazing thing that they're doing.”
Inspiration was something audience members described about Shen Yun.
“It's admirable that they're continuing this,” said Rebecca Martin, a privacy officer.
“The art of the dance and the ideas that are being presented in the dance, and the sequences, and just the whole performance. It's just great that it's being carried on in this time right now,” Ms. Martin said.
Veronika Sandor, CEO of Q-NET LLC, said, “It's just beautiful. Beautiful. Yes, I saw this show in 2019 in Atlanta, and I've been waiting all this time to see it again.”
“It was really encouraging to see,” Ms. Landon said.
“Especially in the world that we're living in today, where things are so divided and people seem like everyone's arguing all the time, and so to just see that message of hope and encouragement is really great to see,” Ms. Landon said.
